The 3 Days Chimpanzee Safari in Uganda is a short yet rewarding primate adventure designed for travelers who want to experience chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The safari takes you to Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda’s top chimpanzee tracking destination and one of Africa’s richest primate ecosystems. This itinerary combines scenic drives, guided forest treks, and cultural encounters, making it ideal for nature lovers and travelers with limited time.
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from Entebbe or Kampala by a professional driver-guide. You depart for western Uganda, traveling through beautiful countryside, tea plantations, and rural villages. Lunch is taken en route in Fort Portal, a town set against the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
In the afternoon, you continue to Kibale Forest National Park and check in at your lodge near the park. The rest of the day is spent relaxing and enjoying the peaceful forest environment. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
After an early breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for a chimpanzee tracking briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Accompanied by experienced guides, you enter the forest in search of a habituated chimpanzee community.
Chimpanzee tracking usually lasts between two and four hours, depending on the chimps’ movements. During the trek, you may encounter other primates such as red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys, as well as a variety of forest birds.
Once the chimpanzees are found, you spend time observing their energetic behavior as they feed, groom, and communicate through loud calls. After the experience, you return to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon is spent at leisure or on an optional visit to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area rich in birdlife and local culture. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
After breakfast, you check out of the lodge and begin the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The drive offers final views of western Uganda’s scenic landscapes, with lunch taken en route. You arrive in the late afternoon or evening and are dropped off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of the 3 Days Chimpanzee Safari in Uganda.
