The 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari is designed for travelers who want to experience mountain gorillas twice, allowing deeper appreciation of their behavior, family dynamics, and forest habitat. By trekking two different gorilla families on separate days, this safari offers a richer and more immersive encounter than a single trek. The safari takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda’s premier gorilla trekking destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from Entebbe or Kampala by a professional safari guide. You will embark on a scenic drive to southwestern Uganda, passing through rural countryside, local villages, rolling hills, and lush farmlands. A stop is made at the Equator crossing for photography and a short break, followed by lunch at a selected restaurant along the way.
The journey continues toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where the landscape becomes increasingly mountainous and forested. Upon arrival, you check in at your lodge located near your designated trekking sector. The rest of the evening is spent relaxing and enjoying the peaceful forest environment. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for a detailed gorilla trekking briefing conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You are assigned to a trekking group of no more than eight people and allocated a gorilla family based on fitness levels and trekking difficulty.
With experienced guides and armed rangers, you enter the forest to begin your first gorilla trek. The trek can last between one and six hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements. Along the way, you may encounter forest birds, monkeys, and unique plant species.
Once the gorillas are located, you spend one full hour observing them in their natural environment. Watching the silverback lead the family, juveniles play, and mothers care for infants is a deeply moving experience. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. The afternoon is free for leisure or optional cultural activities such as a community walk or Batwa cultural visit. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
The third day offers a second gorilla trekking adventure, providing a unique opportunity to compare different gorilla families and trekking environments. After breakfast, you return to the park headquarters for another briefing and are assigned a different gorilla family from the previous day.
The second trek may take you through a different part of the forest, offering new scenery and wildlife sightings. Because each gorilla family has distinct behaviors and group dynamics, the experience feels completely different from the first trek.
Again, you are allowed one hour with the gorillas once they are found. Many travelers find the second trek even more rewarding, as they are more relaxed and able to observe subtle behaviors and interactions. After the trek, you return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon resting, sharing stories, or enjoying the lodge’s surroundings. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.
After breakfast, you check out of the lodge and begin the return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. The drive offers final views of Uganda’s countryside, with planned stops for lunch and short breaks. Arrival in Entebbe or Kampala is in the late afternoon or evening, with drop-off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for onward flights.
This marks the end of your 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari.
